Accessibility
We believe everyone should be able to scan and organize their books. Knut is built with accessibility in mind, and we're committed to making the app usable for all.
Supported Accessibility Features
VoiceOver
Navigate and explore the app using gestures, keyboard, braille, and speech output. All controls and interactive elements are labeled for VoiceOver users.
Voice Control
Navigate and interact with the app using your voice — tap, swipe, type, and more. All tappable elements are accessible via voice commands.
Larger Text (Dynamic Type)
Text in the app scales to 200% or more when you increase your system text size. All touch targets meet the minimum 44×44 point requirement for comfortable interaction.
Dark Interface
The app uses a dark color scheme across all screens, menus, and controls, reducing eye strain in any lighting condition.
Differentiate Without Color
The app uses shapes and text alongside color to convey information. For example, the auto-capture confidence indicator uses both color and text labels — green with 'ready' and amber with 'settling' — so you never rely on color alone.
Sufficient Contrast
Text and controls meet WCAG AA contrast standards — at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. The dark theme with gold and amber accents provides strong visual contrast throughout.
Areas for Improvement
We're honest about what we haven't fully implemented yet. These features are on our roadmap:
- Full Keyboard Access: The app is designed for iPhone touch interaction and is not yet optimized for external keyboard navigation.
- Switch Control: Not specifically tested or optimized for Switch Control input.
- Bold Text: The app uses its own typographic hierarchy and does not yet respond to the system Bold Text setting.
- Increase Contrast: The dark interface already provides strong contrast by default, but the app does not respond to the Increase Contrast system setting.
- Reduce Transparency: The app does not use transparency effects, so this setting has no impact.
- Reduce Motion: The app contains minimal animations, but does not specifically check the Reduce Motion system preference.
Our Commitment
Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a checkbox. We continuously review and improve the app to better serve all users. If a future iOS update introduces new accessibility capabilities, we'll work to support them.
